Dear D93 Families,
I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer with your kids. If your summer was anything like mine, it flew by far too quickly. As much as I love those long summer days, I can’t help but feel excited for the start of a new school year.

Our staff has been hard at work all summer—adding fresh coats of paint, mowing grass, remodeling and updating our schools, installing new technology, and welcoming new teachers and staff to our team.
We had an incredible year last year! Our students competed at state and national levels in athletics, academics, and technical competitions. We saw tremendous growth in reading scores from fall to spring. Our graduation rate stayed more than 10% above the state average, with fewer than 2% of students leaving before graduation. We also hit a record for the number of students earning college credit while still in high school.
Thanks to state facilities funding, savings from the Black Canyon Middle School bond, and property sales, we’ve been able to make much-needed improvements across the district—without increasing local property taxes. Some highlights include:
- Completion of our new transportation center
- Renovations and classroom additions to the Bonneville High School commons
- New controlled access into Hillcrest High School
- New controlled access and office space at Falls Valley Elementary
And we’re not stopping there. Many other projects are in the works to improve every school in our district, and we’re incredibly grateful for the state’s investment in these efforts.
In this week’s update, you’ll find details about Back-to-School Nights next week and information for our first week of school, starting Monday, August 25.
Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your children. We believe deeply in our promise to design success for each one of them, and we can’t wait to get started on another amazing year together.
Warmly,
Dr. Scott Woolstenhulme
Superintendent of Schools

We are excited to announce that Dr. Chris Powell has been approved as the new principal of Woodland Hills Elementary School. Dr. Powell joins us from Idaho Falls School District 91, where he most recently served as principal at Eagle Rock Middle School and Idaho Falls High School.
Prior to his work in Idaho Falls, he spent over six years in California as a high school principal and teacher. With more than a decade of administrative experience and a strong background in teaching, Dr. Powell brings exceptional leadership and a passion for helping students pursue their passions and reach their full potential.
He officially joined our team last week, immediately stepping in to attend meetings and connect with Woodland Hills staff. We feel very fortunate to welcome such a highly qualified and dedicated administrator to our District 93 family.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Chris Powell and his wife, Jackie, as they become part of the Woodland Hills community.

What a season to remember! After battling through rain delays, marathon games, and fierce competition, our Bonneville Bees Baseball team captured the State Championship title! Their grit, determination, and true “winners only” mentality carried them through every challenge and earned them a well-deserved place in school history.
Coach Alexander and his staff praised the team not only for their athletic accomplishments but also for their growth as students, teammates, and leaders. With eight seniors leaving behind a powerful legacy and younger players already eager to step up, the future of Bees Baseball looks bright.
Congratulations to our players, coaches, and families—your hard work and heart have made our community proud!

This June, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office hosted its annual Career Leadership Camp, giving local students hands-on experiences in law enforcement, teamwork, and leadership. Each week, 24 students representing 10 different schools participated in activities ranging from search and rescue training to scuba diving, firearm safety, and even rappelling off the Bonneville fire escape. Students also toured the county jail and learned from specialized units, including snipers—one student even hit a bullseye from a quarter of a mile away!
Sergeant Dan Sperry expressed his gratitude to District 93 for providing access to facilities, buses, and staff support, which made this unique camp possible. “This wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of District 93,” he shared.
We’re proud to partner with the Sheriff’s Office in creating opportunities that challenge students, build confidence, and inspire future careers.

This legislative session, the Idaho legislature passed the “Distraction Free Learning Act” to restrict the use of electronic communication devices at school. In response to that bill, we have updated our policy to create a focused, distraction-free learning environment while allowing responsible technology use. Please review these rules at home and talk with your student about responsible device use.
For All Students
- Personal electronic communication devices include mobile phones, tablets, and smart watches .
- Students are never permitted to use personal communication to take unauthorized photos or videos including in private areas like restrooms or locker rooms.
- The District and school will not assume any liability for lost, stolen, or damaged devices.
- Students are not permitted to charge personal devices in areas where cords create safety hazards.
- Regardless of grade level, students with disabilities or serious medical conditions may be permitted access to electronic communication devices if approved as an accommodation in their Individual Education Plan, 504 Plan, or Medical Plan.
|
|
All personal electronic communication devices must be turned off and kept out of sight at school.
|
Students are permitted to use devices before and after school, during passing periods, and during lunch unless restricted by the building.
Middle schools and high schools will use a color coded plan to inform students when and how personal electronic devices may be used at school.
🔴 Red Light: No devices allowed; must be silenced and put away.
🟡 Yellow Light: Teachers will direct students to use available devices for specific learning activities.
🟢 Green Light: With teacher permission, students may be allowed to use devices for self-directed learning activities.
|
|
Students who are seen using electronic communication devices at school will be asked to turn their device into the classroom teacher.
For repeated offenses, or if a student refuses to turn their device into a teacher, they will be referred to the principal for disciplinary action consistent with the District Code of Student Conduct. Parents may be asked to come to the school to get the device.
Further violations may result in loss of device privileges or other consequences, including possible suspension from school for refusing to comply with Board policy.

We are excited to share that D93’s brand-new Transportation Center—often called the “bus barn”—is officially open! This facility represents a huge upgrade for our district, providing safer, more efficient operations for our bus drivers, mechanics, and transportation staff.
Our transportation team works tirelessly to ensure our students get to and from school safely each day. This new center gives them the tools, space, and resources they need to maintain our buses and keep our fleet running smoothly for years to come.
We could not have made this project a reality without the incredible support of our community. Thank you for believing in the importance of safe, reliable student transportation and for making this investment in our district’s future.

From Lost to Loved: A Continuous Coat Swap
Last spring, hundreds of unclaimed coats from schools across District 93 were gathered and saved for a special purpose. Through the From Lost to Loved program, these coats are now being given new life by helping students in need stay warm this winter.
If you know of a student without a warm winter coat, requests can easily be submitted using the QR code provided. The Bonneville Education Foundation will deliver a coat directly to the student’s school, ensuring no child goes without warmth this season.
Together, we can turn lost into loved—and keep our students cozy all winter long!

The Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) is bringing the area’s first Free-Standing Emergency Room (FSER) to our community. Located next to Costco, within D93’s boundaries, this new facility will provide hospital-based emergency services as an extension of EIRMC’s main ER.
The 10,820-square-foot ER will feature 10 patient exam rooms, 24/7 emergency care, and advanced imaging and laboratory services. It will be staffed with medical imaging technologists, laboratory professionals, and other emergency care specialists.
EIRMC recently celebrated a beam-signing event to mark this milestone, and D93 News was there to cover it. Watch BYU-Idaho intern Griffin Moeller’s full report for more on how this project will serve our growing community when it opens in 2026.
EIRMC is a proud sponsor of the D93 Family Update.
