Teamwork isn’t always easy. It can be messy, difficult, and sometimes painfully slow — but when we finally accomplish something together that none of us could have done alone, it’s worth it.
The work we’ve done these past few weeks on our elementary school boundaries reminded me of that again. Throughout this process, I’ve experienced a mix of emotions — moments of encouragement and frustration, hope and uncertainty. There were times I wondered if it would ever all come together.

But when I stepped back and tried to see through the eyes of others, my perspective shifted. I began to understand the hopes and concerns that different families and neighborhoods were bringing to the table. That change in perspective helped me see that, together, we could create something better for our students and our community.
As we move forward, I know the final boundaries will not reflect what every family hoped for. But I hope we can all take a moment to shift our perspective — to look for what’s possible when we come together for the good of our children. That’s the power of teamwork. It's the heart of our motto, "We are D93." It’s what sets our district apart.

At their meeting on Wednesday, the School Board voted to approve the updated elementary boundary plan for the 2026–2027 school year. You can view the approved map at d93.org/proposedboundaries and search your address to see which school your family is now zoned to attend. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share feedback and ideas throughout this process. We know we couldn’t make every change that was suggested, but your input helped us create a much better plan for our students and families.

At last night’s meeting, the D93 Board of Trustees proudly approved Steve Cziep as the first principal of Willow Creek Elementary, opening fall 2026.
As our district prepares for this exciting new chapter, naming a principal marks a major milestone. Mr. Cziep brings with him a proven record of leadership, collaboration, and care for students and staff alike. He has successfully led two schools in D93 and another in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District, building strong cultures grounded in teamwork and student success.
When asked about the opportunity, Steve shared his enthusiasm for bringing teachers together from across the district to create a cohesive team and a shared vision for Willow Creek. His dedication to building a thriving school community makes him the perfect fit to lead this new beginning.

These are two big steps forward, but we have a lot more changes that will happen between now and the start of school next fall.

- January 1st: Open enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year will open

- Applications submitted by February 1, 2026, will receive priority consideration.

- Open enrollment applications received by February 1st will be confirmed or denied.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up.
Elementary: Tuesday, October 14th and Thursday, October 16th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Middle School: Monday, October 13th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
High School: Monday, October 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Board of Trustees recognized the Thunder Ridge High School National Honor Society (NHS) for earning the National Award of Excellence, the highest distinction given by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
This honor means the chapter achieved excellent ratings in all four NHS pillars—Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Last year, the group received recognition for Service; this year’s award celebrates their continued growth and outstanding contributions to both school and community.
Under the guidance of advisors Aubrey Ryan and Natalie Woods (currently serving an Einstein Fellowship in Washington, D.C.), students have made a remarkable impact—from organizing Red Cross blood drives to raising funds that provided six months of hot meals for more than 1,000 people in Ukraine.
Congratulations to these exceptional student leaders for representing D93 with excellence and heart!

Congratulations to Guy Wangsgard — Idaho School Business Official of the Year!
This summer, Guy Wangsgard, our Executive Director of Business and Operations, was named the Idaho Association of School Business Officials “Official of the Year.”
Throughout his career, Guy has exemplified integrity, professionalism, and selfless service—not only to Bonneville Joint School District 93 but to colleagues across the state. Known for his deep expertise and willingness to help others, Guy is admired for going above and beyond to support schools and ensure that every decision ultimately benefits students.
Although he couldn’t attend the Boise ceremony in person (he was busy fulfilling his summer duties with our youth programs), Superintendent Woolstenhulme accepted the award on his behalf and shared heartfelt words about Guy’s dedication and impact.
We’re so proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor—thank you, Guy, for all you do to keep D93 running strong and focused on what matters most: our students.

And speaking of how terrific Guy and his team are, our independent auditors presented their audit findings for the 2025-2025 school year. And for the 5th year in a row, we had the highest ratings for our audit. This speaks volumes about the teamwork and precision that our business office approaches their work with. |
|
On a more sobering note, our general fund balance dropped by $4.1 million last year. This was not unexpected — it aligned with what we had budgeted and reflects the planned spend-down of the supplemental appropriation from the legislature the year before.
However, this year we expect our general fund balance to decrease even further. We anticipate ending the fiscal year with less than $7 million, compared to $17 million at the start of last year.
We have some tough decisions ahead as we work to balance our budget. Those decisions will likely involve both staffing and program adjustments, as well as an appeal to our voters to increase the supplemental levy — to help offset rising costs and replace funds lost through recent state funding changes.

The Board approved the next phase for renovations for Bonneville High School. This phase will remodel the classrooms in the upper A wing to create much needed science labs and will improve the security and lighting of this wing, as well as providing accessible restrooms and replacing elevators. |

Snapology STEM Program Coming to Rimrock Elementary!
Rimrock Elementary is launching an exciting new after-school STEM program through Snapology, a nationally recognized organization that teaches science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on LEGO® projects.
Students will explore robotics, engineering, and coding as they build and program LEGO® creations using Spike Prime and Technic kits. The six-week sessions will run for 90 minutes each week, giving students the chance to learn, create, and problem-solve in a fun, collaborative setting.
This opportunity came to life thanks to Principal Steve Cziep’s initiative and partnership with Rimrock’s PTO. The program is fully facilitated by Snapology instructors who are trained and background-checked, and a portion of the class fees will go directly back to the school as a fundraiser to support student programs.
It’s a wonderful way to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning—one LEGO® brick at a time!

We have officially opened sign-ups for our 2025-2026 preschool newsletter. This is a monthly newsletter for our district’s preschool-aged children (ages 3-5). We send home a newsletter and book to district families that sign up, once a month between October and May. |

From Lost to Loved: A Continuous Coat Swap
Last spring, hundreds of unclaimed coats from schools across District 93 were gathered and saved for a special purpose. Through the From Lost to Loved program, these coats are now being given new life by helping students in need stay warm this winter.
If you know of a student without a warm winter coat, requests can easily be submitted using the QR code provided. The Bonneville Education Foundation will deliver a coat directly to the student’s school, ensuring no child goes without warmth this season.
Together, we can turn lost into loved—and keep our students cozy all winter long!

Parenting the Love and Logic Way Class
Come Join Steve in a 7-Week course of Parenting the Love and Logic Way. Steve Dewey has been teaching parenting classes in the community for the past 27 years. He is well known for his ability to use humor and fun stories to make his parenting classes easy to understand so that participants are able to implement the interventions immediately and successfully. The parenting classes will be for parents of children of all ages. Please click this link for more information about the class.
