December Cornerstone: Integrity

Why Integrity Matters

Of our four cornerstones, integrity matters the very most because trust is the foundation of every healthy relationship. Trust grows when our thoughts, words, and actions align.

This year, our principals have been learning how to have more helpful and meaningful crucial conversations. These conversations happen when emotions rung strong and opinions are held strongly. Sometimes it is tempting to shy away from hard conversation or, for others, to become defensive. But integrity does not ask us to choose between being clear and being kind. We can learn to do both.

The key is our intent. If the goal is simply to prove we are right or just get our way, the relationship will suffer. But when our purpose is to understand each other, strengthen our relationship, or solve a problem together, communication becomes more open and productive.

When we speak up because we genuinely care about the other person and want what is best for the child at the center of the discussion, clarity and kindness naturally come together. This is the “secret sauce” behind the strong, trust-filled relationships we hope to build between our schools and our families.

Snow Way Around It—Plows Are On the Move

HEADS UP! Winter is upon us, and snow removal may be in progress. Our snow removal teams will be out working to keep the parking lots sidewalks and playgrounds clear and safe. Please watch for plow equipment while driving or walking through the lots, sidewalks, and playgrounds and give them plenty of space to operate. Please be aware that crew members may not see you if you enter the space they are working in. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Cold Weather Closures

With the change in weather and snow now covering the ground, this is a good time to revisit how we decide when to close or delay school. We want families to know what to expect and how we approach these decisions.

Here's How We Decide
  • By law and Board policy, we keep schools open on scheduled days unless extreme weather or other emergencies make it unsafe for students and staff.
  • We also understand that closures affect families in different ways. Some depend on school meals or have limited child care options, so we take every decision very seriously and try to make the best call for everyone.
Here is a quick, at-a-glance guide to how the process works on winter mornings:

❄️ School Closure Quick Guide

🌨️ Why We Might Close
  • Blizzard conditions that make roads unsafe
  • Temperatures near or below -20°F

⏰ How the Decision Is Made
  • Road and temperature checks begin at 4:30 am
  • District review and decision at 5:30 am

📢 How You’ll Hear from Us
  • ParentSquare notification by 6:00 am
  • Updates shared with local media
  • Posted on the District Facebook page

🤝 Our Commitment to Families
  • We follow state law and Board policy to stay open when it is safe
  • We understand closures affect families differently, so every decision is made with great care

Fill the Bucket, Protect a Classroom

Bonneville Joint School District 93, in partnership with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and the Bonneville Education Foundation, has launched a district-wide safety initiative to equip every classroom with a FAST Bucket (First Aid Supplies & Tourniquets).
Developed by our own School Resource Officers, each bucket contains essential emergency tools to help teachers and students be prepared in critical situations. Our goal is to raise $40,000 by December 14th—a day of remembrance—to ensure every classroom has a FAST Bucket by Spring 2026.
Every donation makes a difference in helping us protect students and staff across D93.

From Lost to Loved: A Continuous Coat Swap
Last spring, hundreds of unclaimed coats from schools across District 93 were gathered and saved for a special purpose. Through the From Lost to Loved program, these coats are now being given new life by helping students in need stay warm this winter.
If you know of a student without a warm winter coat, requests can easily be submitted using the QR code provided. The Bonneville Education Foundation will deliver a coat directly to the student’s school, ensuring no child goes without warmth this season.
Together, we can turn lost into loved—and keep our students cozy all winter long!

EIRMC Health Minute

Preventing Scald Injuries in Children: What Parents Need to Know

EIRMC, home to Idaho’s only Burn Center, has seen a troubling rise in pediatric scald injuries, with 14 children hospitalized in 2024 alone. Medical Director Dr. Tait Olaveson warns that hot liquids can cause severe burns in just seconds—especially when children are cooking with microwaved soups or drinks, or when bath water is too hot. Families can reduce risks by keeping microwaves at a safe height, using larger containers for hot liquids, and always testing bath water with the back of the wrist before placing a child in the tub.

For more information on preventing scald injuries in children, visit https://www.eirmc.com/healthy-living/blog/scald-injury-in-children.
