January Cornerstone: Learning and Literacy

As we focus on learning and literacy this month, I want to take a moment to recognize that your child’s success depends on far more than what happens in the classroom, and we are incredibly grateful for the many people who make school work each day.

Our support staff are essential to creating the safe, welcoming, dependable environment students need in order to learn. From the bus drivers who provide a safe ride and a friendly greeting, to the cooks who make sure students are nourished and ready to focus, to the custodians and maintenance teams who keep our buildings clean, warm, and working, to the office staff and aides who help students and families navigate each day with care, their work matters in powerful ways.

We’re thankful for the professionalism, kindness, and consistency our support staff bring to students and families. If you see one of these team members this week, please join me in offering a quick thank you. Their work helps make learning possible for all students.

Open Enrollment Applications Now Open

If you want your child to attend a school other than their zoned school, please submit an open enrollment application.
Applications received by February 1 will receive priority consideration, and we will use the number of applications received by that deadline to help determine staffing at each school. Because school boundaries are changing next year, any student in kindergarten through 6th grade who plans to attend a school other than their zoned school will need to submit an open enrollment application.

Kindergarten Open Enrollment Form is Open

We have also updated our form to allow for families to apply for open enrollment for students who will be coming into kindergarten next fall.

Pie the Prez Fundraiser

The Bonneville Education Foundation has teamed up with Hillcrest High School Student Council and Thunder Ridge High School Student Council for a fun and friendly competition called Pie the Prez — all in support of a meaningful cause!

These amazing student leaders have been working hard to raise funds, build school spirit, and engage their peers. What makes this competition even more impactful is that every dollar raised by each school will go directly toward FAST Buckets for their own school, helping support classroom safety and emergency preparedness.

The school that raises the most funds will earn the chance to pie their student body president during boys basketball halftime between Hillcrest and Thunder Ridge on Saturday.

📍 Thunder Ridge High School
🕢 Game starts at 7:30 PM (halftime pie event!)

Want to support the students? Donations can be made via Venmo by scanning the QR codes below to cheer on your favorite school."
The flyer promotes a “Pie the Prez” fundraising competition benefiting a district-wide classroom safety initiative. The headline reads: “Pie the Prez – Friendly Competition for a Worthy Cause.”

Two high schools are competing head-to-head to raise funds.

On the left side, Thunder Ridge High School is shown with the Titans logo. Text states that Thunder Ridge has raised six hundred thirty-five dollars and eighty-three cents. Below this amount is a pie graphic and text that reads: “Support Thunder Ridge – Scan Here,” followed by a Venmo QR code for donations.

On the right side, Hillcrest High School is shown with the Knights logo. Text states that Hillcrest has raised eighteen dollars and sixty cents. Below this amount is a pie graphic and text that reads: “Support Hillcrest – Scan Here,” followed by a QR code for donations.

Centered between the two schools is a large graphic of a FAST Bucket labeled: “Every Classroom – First Aid Supplies – Tourniquets – District Wide.” The bucket highlights the FAST acronym: First Aid Supplies and Tourniquets. Logos appear below for Bonneville Joint School District 93, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bonneville Education Foundation, indicating partnership in the safety initiative.

The overall message encourages friendly competition between schools to raise money for classroom emergency preparedness.

Feel Good Friday Spotlight 💙

EastIdahoNews.com, in partnership with Ashley and Ashley Outlet of Idaho Falls, recently honored one of our own through their Feel Good Friday series. Michelle, a child nutrition employee at Rocky Mountain Middle School, was surprised for her quick thinking and compassion during a busy lunch service when a student experienced a medical emergency. Michelle immediately stepped in, called 911, and stayed with the student to provide calm, caring support until help arrived.
Her actions reflect the teamwork, care, and commitment to student safety that define Bonneville School District 93.

We’re excited to share that we’ve teamed up with East Idaho News for another upcoming Feel Good Friday feature, so be sure to watch for that on their website. We love partnering with them to recognize our incredible faculty and staff, and we encourage families and community members to nominate deserving D93 employees at: https://www.eastidahonews.com/nominate-for-feel-good-friday/.

The words 'We are D93' are displayed in a bold, stylized font.
