I appreciate the adage, "A rising tide lifts all boats." When we take time to lift others up, we all benefit.
Next week, as we hold our first parent-teacher conferences across D93, families will have an opportunity to celebrate their children's progress, ask questions, and work through any concerns or frustrations. I learned firsthand—and sometimes backhand—about the importance of these conversations when my parents and teachers had many, many crucial conversations about me as a kid! Trust me, I made sure to use all of the letters on my report cards.
Even when there are concerns to discuss, I hope we'll take a moment to express appreciation for the teachers and staff who work so hard every day to make a difference in our students' lives. A simple thank-you or a kind word can mean more than we realize.
I also want to give a special thank-you to the parent volunteers who take time to provide meals for our teachers during these long conference days. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated!
Hitting All the Right Notes—from Idaho to Broadway!
Congratulations to Thunder Ridge High School’s Livi Piri and Benjamin Strock, who earned first-place honors at the Idaho State Solo and Ensemble Competition in Coeur d’Alene last spring! Livi won in the soprano solo category, and Benjamin won in the bass solo category. Their achievements reflect their talent, dedication, and the support of their families, choir director Ray Matheson, and collaborative pianist Melissa Kibler.
Benjamin also earned the opportunity to represent Idaho at the Jimmy Awards in New York City through the Patty Duke Awards program. He worked with Broadway professionals, was recognized among the top 40 students nationally, and performed as a soloist on a Broadway stage!
We are proud of these outstanding students and grateful for the educators who help create opportunities for them to shine.
Her Award, Their Stories: Gloria Puts Students First
Congratulations to Gloria Santillan, D93 Migrant Liaison, who was selected to represent Idaho as a recipient of the Gan Award for Identification & Recruitment! Director of Federal Programs Rex Miller introduced Gloria, recognizing her compassion, dedication, and commitment to migrant students and families.
True to her character, Gloria never mentioned her award when she spoke. Instead, she celebrated the students and families served by D93’s Migrant Education Program—sharing stories of graduates now pursuing college and careers, parents working toward their GEDs, and families finding support and a sense of belonging.
Gloria’s focus was exactly where it always is: on helping others succeed. Thank you, Gloria, for removing barriers, building connections, and reminding students that they matter, they belong, and their dreams are possible. Together We Are D93!

🏰 D93 Attendance Challenge: It's Time to Rally! Is Here!
We're off to a slower start than we hoped in the D93 Healthy Attendance Challenge, presented by Cafe Sabor! Our goal is to increase districtwide attendance by two percentage points, but we're not there yet. We need everyone's help to turn things around!
From October 1 through November 20, D93 students can earn up to four entries into a drawing for an incredible Disneyland vacation for a family of four, including airfare from Idaho Falls, hotel accommodations near Disneyland, and three-day park tickets!
🎟️ Two Ways to Earn Entries:
Strong Attendance: Students earn entries by attending 30–32 days (K–6) or 33–35 days (grades 7–12).
Improved Attendance: Students can also earn entries by attending 2, 4, 6, or 8 more days than during the same period last year.
Students receive the higher number of entries earned through either option, up to four total. The lucky winner will be announced before Christmas Break!
💛 D93 Families, Let's Rally! Every healthy school day matters, and together we can get back on track. Help us reach our districtwide goal while giving your student a chance at a magical family vacation!
Remember: Attend when healthy. Stay home when sick. Let's make every healthy school day count!
Did you know we share new stories, videos, and celebrations every week across our social media platforms? From heartwarming student features to behind-the-scenes looks at our schools, there’s always something happening in D93!
🩺 EIRMC Health Minute: Allergic Reactions — When Should You Go to the ER?
Allergic reactions can happen unexpectedly, whether triggered by food, insect stings, medications or environmental allergens. While most reactions are mild, some can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes.
Our friends at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) remind families that knowing the warning signs can make all the difference.
Mild allergic reactions may include itching, hives, sneezing, watery eyes or minor swelling. These symptoms can often be monitored at home with guidance from a healthcare provider.
Call 911 immediately if your child experiences difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips or throat, trouble swallowing, fainting or severe vomiting accompanied by other allergy symptoms. These could be signs of anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction requiring immediate treatment.
If your child has a prescribed epinephrine auto-injector, use it immediately when signs of anaphylaxis appear and call 911. Emergency medical evaluation is still necessary, even if symptoms improve.
Being prepared can save a life! Know your child's allergy triggers, keep prescribed medications accessible and work with your healthcare provider to develop an allergy action plan.
